JP > UK flights

Has anyone done a return trip JP > UK, UK > JP recently? If so, which airline did you use?

Any advice for bringing the cost of flights down even a little? I know it’s wishful thinking, but I’m hoping there’s some way that I’m unaware of.

Did you just bite the bullet and go for a flight that’s £1000 – £1300?

Any advice you could give is greatly appreciated. I’ve labelled this as UK thread, but I just wanna put it out there that anybody is welcome to comment – please help me! Lol

  1. I had a similar dillemna and just managed to book in for January of next year at 230,000JPY for 2 people. (about 650 quid per person)

KIX (Osaka) to Singapore to Heathrow and back again, Singapore airlines. It was about 215,000JPY before paying for assigned seating (have to sit together) so you can save a little more if you really don’t care.

Honestly, with the state of the yen, I am pretty chuffed with the above result. It is a while away though so I can imagine you will pay more if you are looking to travel soonish.

  2. Osaka to Edinburgh was ¥150k on kayak (using Qatar)

    KIX-Kuala Lumpur (?)- Doha – edi

    7-7-7 hours

    Mid-December. 5hr layover in KL I think.

  3. yes, just came back last week, ANA Haneda to Heathrow, 14 hours nonstop. Could have been cheaper if I did a stop over in Seoul, Singapore, HK, or Taiwan but it would have lengthened the actual travel time so much so I just put up with the price. Cost roughly $2000 a pop so maybe about 260,000 yen when I bought it in Feb? I wanna go back next year and am dreading the cost.

  4. Went JAL and spent £2000+ because i was going for less than a week and long flights just weren’t worth it for me.

ANA and Lufthansa were also pleasant at Christmas. JAL has wider seats, but all had decent food.

My advice is book quite into the future. We got some direct flights at Christmas 2023 for under 1000, as it’s quite early.
Also delete cookies, as the prices were going up the more we looked.

    Good luck!

  5. I went at Christmas with one child and it cost 232,000 in total.

I’ve booked for myself and two kids in August and it’s costing 570,000.

    Both times Cathay.

  6. Recently did a 21 hour economy flight with Etihad (Nar>Abu Dhabi>Heathrow) for 205,000 I think. Return flight was about 17.5 hours.

Personally wouldn’t risk flying over Russia airspace anytime soon.

  7. My advice would be to travel outside the high season. And be flexible with your dates. Therefore, I suggest to use a [flexible flight search engine](https://www.google.com/search?q=flexible+flight+search+engine).

Did a search now, and as an example found a trip for **£595** (103,000 JPY) with single 6 hour and 8 hour layovers in Sri Lanka in each direction. Tokyo – London, November 25th – 30th.
