Hi, I am moving to Japan next month on a 1 year student visa, I would be looking to extend this for another year to finish the course, I would apply towards the end of the year. I only have a 1 year visa right now as I didn’t have enough money to prove I could afford 2 years on my first visa.
My question is, do I have to meet the same requirements (2,500,000 yen in savings) when I apply to extend the visa?
I plan on working part time but there are no guarantees and with the cost of living I may fall well short of this amount by the end of the first year. I have seen that you can show your earnings for your job as well so possibly that would be enough to prove I am able to afford another year of study but I just wanted to see if anyone knew any better on the topic.
Thanks.

Yes, you’ll need to provide proof of savings again in order to renew.
>but there are no guarantees and with the cost of living I may fall well short of this amount by the end of the first year.
You ***will*** fall short/consume your savings. There’s no way you’re going to make all of your living expenses and your tuition with the sort of part time jobs available to students.
>I have seen that you can show your earnings for your job as well
No, you can’t do this.
You can provide proof of income for *someone else* (Like your parents), but immigration will not let you self-sponsor with proof of income.
