Where do you learn pitch patterns?

I was wondering about where you could learn pitch accents? Do you just type into google “\[word\] pitch accent”?

  1. Most dictionaries include it, just like how english dictionaries include the stress accent of words. In japanese dictionaries it’s often shown as a number like [2].

  2. jpdb.io, kanshudo, Prosody Tutor Suzuki-kun, forvo

Theyre are plenty of ways to do it

The browser extension Yomichan is pretty good as well.

  3. The Renshuu learning app has pitch patterns on all of their dictionary entries. I also set my Renshuu preferences to always have the native speaker speak an example sentence after each question when available — following along by mirroring the native speaker’s accent can help you start intuiting some of the patterns.
