Advice please

Hello, my partner and I are discussing whether to move to Tokyo mid-year next year from Auckland, NZ. I’m half Japanese and lived in Tokyo more than half of my life, while my boyfriend is kiwi/Chilean. I’m wondering what his job opportunities look like
over there…obviously he cannot speak Japanese and right now he works as an accounting auditor. Are there job opportunities for him to work as an
accountant in companies where Japanese isn’t required? I remember when I was working part time in Tokyo after high school, I didn’t really hear of companies that were strictly English only. That was over 5 years ago so I’m wondering if it’s changed
over there. Any help and advice is really
appreciated 🙂 thank you.

I had a quick look here to see how bad it would be: [https://www.robertwalters.co.jp/en/accountancy-and-finance/jobs.html](https://www.robertwalters.co.jp/en/accountancy-and-finance/jobs.html)

I got around half way through the page before giving up. Of the ones that were written in English there were two that did not list “Business Level Japanese”, “Fluent Japanese”, or “Native Japanese Speaker” as requirements. One of those two did list “Business level English” as a requirement so I suspect they’re just assuming Japanese as a given.

That is by no means an exhaustive list, but should give you a rough idea of what the job market is like overall.

  2. I would assume that if your BF’s skills are good that he may be able to land a position at a foreign company. However today most foreign companies want bilingual staff so it may difficult.
