Spiritual hiking recommendations

Hey All,

A friend and I are heading to Japan in early September and set aside 5 days for hiking. We would be leaving from Kyoto to get there and would be leaving for Tokyo when we finish. I have researched a few hikes that look rigorous and fun but we’re looking for a hike where we would maybe see some temples and a hike that is regarded as a more spiritual hike versus a hard-o jaunt through the Japanese alps if that makes sense. We’re both in great shape and are experienced hikers and were wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks
