Manga Author Recommendation: 押見修造

Hi! I’m here to recommend you to check some of Oshimi’s works, like Flowers of Evil (惡の華). Most of his manga have teenagers as characters and the Japanese is quite easy. And since almost all the characters speak similarly it’s very easy to pick up another of his manga after finishing one. Overall, his works are about teenagers going through peculiar experiences, with sexuality being a vital part of it (there’s underaged nudity and sex in some), and mentally growing and maturing in some form.

I am now going through his works in order of release, about to read デビルエクスタシー (NSFW) and this is what I’ve read of him so far:

* 惡の華
* 真夜中のパラノイアスター (very violent)
* アバンギャルド夢子
* スーパーフライ
* ユウタイノヴァ
* スイートプールサイド
* 超常眼球沢田

At the same time I’m looking for recommendations. I like serious manga and my favourite genre is scifi (I like fiction as a whole). I’m not really into よつばと and the like. I’m planning to read ブラム which I really liked in English, おやすみプンプン and サライ which I haven’t read before. I don’t mind the difficulty of the Japanese, unless it’s exclusively hard.

  1. I don’t have any manga recommendations for you myself but just wanted to say thank you for sharing this recommendation! His works sound interesting and I’ll definitely check them out the next time I’m in the mood to read manga.

  2. I’m currently reading メイドインアビス, it has pretty difficult Japanese. As Seinen manga, it normally has no furigana readings so knowing Kanji is necessary. It has a bit too many “Sus” scenes, but aside from that it’s pretty good imo

  3. Here are some SF manga recommendations:

    * 天国大魔境
    * GLITCH
    * 銀河英雄伝説 (it’s the manga adaptation of the classic novel. I actually haven’t read this manga but I may eventually read the novels)

  4. I read I bunch of his works but… I stopped eventually because I really don’t like his mindset and storytelling style.
