Best IOS Japanese dictionary app? (Bilingual / monolingual)

Hi guys,
Just curious as to what best Japanese dictionary on IOS?
Mainly after bilingual as I’m not at the stage to use a monolingual dictionary yet.

Also curious as to people’s thoughts as to which direction would be more beneficial/applicable, Eng->Jap or Jap -> Eng. Unsure if that’s a silly question or not.

I’ve seen my GF use Weblio for her Jap to Eng translations, which seems quite reliable

I’ve currently just started using Satori reader (which does have built in translations), so I can envision some utility for a Jap->Eng.
My initial thoughts are if I’m reading, jap -> Eng. If I’m writing, Eng -> Jap

Which do you guys use and in what circumstances? And what are the best options for IOS?

  3. I’ve been converted to [Dictionaries by Monokakido](https://apps.apple.com/de/app/dictionaries/id1380563956?l=en) by this sub so allow me to sing that same gospel to you.

    Bit pricy but [KNJE](https://www.dictionarystore.com/en/dictionaries/knje) is probably the best resource when going bilingual.

    I don’t think there’s ever a situation I’m not using it in.

  4. I use Yomiwa. It’s easy to do custom flash cards. It also can read kanji from photos.

    It does OCR, so I use it to read manga, too.

    There is a digital version that sadly just page images from the print version, and a “leaner’s” app version with less content https://apps.apple.com/app/id716481897

    I also use Pleco, a Chinese dictionary: https://apps.apple.com/app/id341922306
    It understands the Japanese writing variants. With the Outlier add-on dictionary you can get etymology to help you understand where the characters came from.

  6. Best can only be measured with the some kind of criteria but I use Yomiwa (though the name sucks) but if it wasn’t there Midori or Japanese would be fine. Shirabe Jisho (which someone here reminded me of) is great too.
