Hi all,
So I have noticed that a Donki in Sendai that is near me has an outlet section for G Shock and Seiko watches. They seem remarkably cheap and once some of the craziness dies down I may look at getting one. I am worried though that they could be fake given their insane discounts. Does anyone know if Japan has an issue with fakes? Are Donki’s luxury goods actually what they say they are?

Donki is a huge chain and Japanese cops wouldn’t allow that to go on, honestly
I’m sure they’re real. They might be used though, lots of stores selling very slightly used luxury goods.
I believe japan has a super strict law against fake products so you honestly shouldn’t see any for sale while you are there
Won’t be fakes, but those brands are not “luxury goods”.
Everything in Donki is what it seems, including the 1am crackwhores. The watches are real, just not the topend models, or are just last season, kind of like the crackwhores.
The luxury good consignment market is reputable in Japan. You see lots of authentic luxury goods at Hard Off, too.
A major corporation like Don Quijote wouldn’t jeopardize itself by selling fake goods.
If you’re looking for luxury goods in Donki I’d suggest ones near red light/entertainment zones like Kabukicho, Nakasu, etc. Hosts and Hostesses often ask for something like a Louis Vuitton bag off two different customers, keep one and pawn one. You’re likely to get a good deal!

I recently bought a Seiko from the Donki in Shinjuku and had several collector friends verify its authenticity. It comes with a guarantee card in the box as well. Enjoy!
Not fake, but used, though often only for hours.
(There are weird laws around prize money and gifting in Japan, whereby it’s easier to buy/give away a luxury item than to give away cash… with the expectation that the recipient immediately pawns the item for the money that was the actual transaction.)
I know its a little far from Sendai, but Tokyo has a few Seiko shops that sell a much wider range of watches. The Donki watches are older but they are real. They’re a huge chain so I guess they buy them in bulk to sell cheap. Sendai is a reasonably sized city so they may have some proper Seiko shops.
Also, I don’t know the usual prices but Donki never seems that cheap to me. I paid 2万 for some old style Raybans.
If you have them nearby try to have a look in other second hand luxury shops like Komehyo, Brandoff, and TWC. You could even look at their sites online. I have found they have more stock, and it isn’t as old or used as donki. Japan is a great place for second hand items, as people often resell gifts.
