Paying for a deposit via swift code..?

Hi there. I’ve found a place in Osaka to move to. They are asking for 30000 yen to hold the room, and gave me a Swift Code.
\- Is this a relatively normal procedure? (Don’t want to get scammed)
\- How exactly does one send money with a Swift code?

  2. Paying with a swift code is basically paying by wire transfer. Sending money from bank to bank. If you are sending it from your home country, use your bank app or go to the teller. If you are sending the money from a Japanese bank you can send the money from your ATM.

All rentals are pre-paid in Japan. Sharehouses have a common problem in that people often apply for them as a back up plan in case their application for a regular apartment fails. So cancellations are common.

If you haven’t signed a contract yet you can get a refund on any payment you make, but don’t expect the company to rush to make a refund.

  3. Yes, it’s normal. With a regular apartment, you pay a deposit, key money, the rent of the moving-in month and the next month beforehand.

Look up international wire transfer to see how to send money to a bank account overseas.
