Kindergarten labelling – product recommendations

Looking for recommendations for what products people have used to label their kids clothes for kindergarten, my previous forays into iron-on labels haven’t been raring successes.

They tend to peel off after few washes.

I guess the best solution would be some miniature printer that could print directly to the clothes, but some stuff is black…

Or maybe somebody has found excellent iron-on labels that last longer, and can be ordered pre-printed?

Or some other solution? Just black pen on a shirt looks a bit ghetto…

  1. We ordered a set of rubber stamps for hoikuen. Comes with black and white ink and like 12 different stamps of different sizes; stamped everything on the tag or the hem

  2. Minne has a whole section on 保育園 goods. We bought some stamps off of there and so far so good.

  3. I ordered stamps from the onamaeseal website. For dark colours I stamp on the tag (actually most of the clothes I try to stamp on the tag so I don’t stamp the clothes directly)

  4. Using a black marker from 100 yen shop and writing the name on the labels. Japanese clothes even have a dedicated name label you can write in most of the time.

  5. I work for a kindergarten and i prefer a black marker.
Takes me forever to find/read those little stamps or stickers. The marker is easy to read and the label is visible.

  6. We have shachihata name stamps separately for clothing and diapers. Great purchase.

  7. Put a couple of stitches on each end of the label?

Or go whole hog and learn how to embroider the kana?

If you or your spouse has any artistic sense, the black permanent marker can look cool. Bubble letters? Uncial font if Romaji is OK?
