Question about line app and changing phone numbers

Hey y’all I’m going home to America to visit for a few weeks. I have my American sim card ready to go and be used (it’s still paid for on my family’s plan). Should be able to pop it back in and use their data as normal. Once I come back I’ll be switching to my Japanese sim card/phone number again.

My worry is that when I do, my line app will go wonky and I might lose all my messages and photos on my account. This happened to me before when I got a new phone number here a few years ago. I’m wondering how to avoid this? I would like to continue using my line app to communicate with work and my friends who are taking care of my home. Any experience with this or advice is appreciated! ♥️

  1. I’ve done it before and nothing happened, LINE worked as usual. Make sure your account is registered and you’ve done a back up on iCloud or Google Drive.

  2. The only time you lose your data is moving between Android and iPhone. Is that what you did in the past?

  3. As annoying at it is that line links to to your phone number, it doesn’t actually use it beyond the initial SNS during setup.

    I’ve traveled to at least:
    Hong Kong
    Vietnam
    Taiwan
    Indonesia
    Philippines

And swapped SIM cards on my phone many times without any issues.

Think about it this way: when using wifi, line works just fine, so all it needs is internet to work.

If it were to detect the SIM card change and pop up a box asking something like “register with be phone number?” You want to answer “no”, though.

  4. I have swapped back and forth between a US SIM card and Japanese SIM card multiple times with no problems. The only time you need to watch out is when you get a new phone and install the app it will wipe all your old messages (at least that’s what I remember from when I replaced my phone 5 years ago).

If you had to install something to get your Japanese SIM to work, make sure to uninstall it once you put your American SIM back in or else you can’t get cell signal!
