Anyone using the Classi system at school?

We will be implementing CLassi from April. We already have (and don’t use) Google Classroom and LoiloNote. In particular I am interested in how Classi is or isn’t an improvement over Classroom, and any opinions – positive or negative – on the system overall.

  1. It looks to be a Benesse/SoftBank joint venture. Our son uses a similar system as a student, so expect it to be simple and difficult or impossible to customize. It seems to have links (that must be paid for) to things like test banks and the like.

  2. I use it at my school a few different ways. For communication it allows for the easy sharing of files and messages between staff, and cuts down on the amount of paper on my desk. I also use it to send info to my homeroom and to my students’ parents directly, meaning I don’t have to rely on the kids to bring messages home.

I can also make customized groups such as my eiken group, sending them info and materials directly. The media sharing capabilities and homework submission system is much better in LoiLoNote though, so I just stick to pdfs and urls in classi.

Classi is a Benesse product, so that means each student has the history of all their moshi. This is useful for tracking progress, especially if their homeroom teacher changes between grades.

There is also a portfolio section which allows students to record what they do during their school life which is useful when students are prepping for university applications and interviews.

Finally there is a Classi Challenge section which generates practice questions in the five major subjects. My kids already have a lot of schoolwork, but some of them use it to review tough subjects.

In the end, it is much more of a communication and archive system than a teaching in classroom tool. If the teachers at your school don’t use Google classroom or LoiLoNote, they probably won’t use classi, but there is a lot of potential for the motivated user.

Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers.

  3. I much prefer Google Classroom and so do my students. Its far easier to use and navigate. If your teachers already have Google Classroom but choose not to use it I really cant see them taking to Classi.

  4. Used it a few years ago and wasn’t really worth it. Students wouldn’t use it and a lot of the older teachers didn’t really understand how it worked either. We switched over to BLEND and it’s working pretty well so far.

  5. I use it at my school (jr/sr high). It’s much more of a communication tool between teachers and teachers/parents. /u/Interesting_Desk2149 highlighted most of the major features well, especially the ability to track student progress, but that requires a lot of student input. It also has a pretty useful Calendar feature where our teachers post important info on a daily basis.

Overall I find it a bit clunky to use as a communication tool. As an example, the search functions within the messages can be frustrating–you can only search within specific groups, compared to a more robust search function such as in Slack.
