Is there a genre name for these Japanese 20-minute TV series/shows about eating out?

I’m talking about series like “Kantaro” or “Samurai Gourmet”. I would like to look for more titles.

So far, I have seen the following series (from favorite to “not bad”):

1. Sunshine Sento-Sake / Hiru no Sento Zake
2. midnight diner: tokyo stories
3. Kantaro
4. samurai gourmet

Would also appreciate recommendations.

  1. not sure if it’s been released with English subs yet, but there’s a recentish one called Izakaya Shinkansen. a guy who travels for work assembles his meal before embarking on the train ride home and it’s all stuff local to the area he’s visiting. one he gets seated, he sets up his table and pours himself a glass of whatever sake he bought, and then begins his meal, recollecting details about everything he’s eating as he eats it. it’s very cool seeing all the regional stuff.

i barely speak Japanese and could mostly follow along. got it from nyaa. not sure if this type of drama has a particular name, but they’re so enjoyable to watch.

  2. My favorite is “Kodoku no Gurume”. It’s based on a manga about a salesman who eats at random hole-in-the-wall places when he goes on business trips. The restaurants are real though, and his descriptions of the food are great.

  3. Solitary Gourmet, Bullet Train Bistro, Sweet Tooth Salaryman, The Way of the Hot and Spicy, Boukyaku no Sachiko: Eating Makes her Forget, Wakako-zake. There’s also a few spin off types like a coffee truck that travels around or a French Chef who solves mysteries as his place.
