Are there any day traders here?

Bit of a long shot but it’d be interesting to hear how you work as a day trader in Japan. What brokers you use, what you trade, how you manage taxes, whether this is your only source of income, what kind of community you’re in, etc.

  1. I use Fidelity and trade mostly tech stocks, ETNs, and occasionally SPX/SPY options. While in Japan I use KPMG for taxes. Not my main source of income. Not in any communities (anymore), but certainly on the look out for good sources.

  2. Yes, but it’s technically night trading here.

My “daytrading” life: Wake up in the afternoon, go to class (the reason I have a visa in Japan), come back home and trade, go to a 24-hour restaurant or cook at around 5am for dinner. Sleep at around 9am.

Get ready to be essentially a night-shift worker.

  3. “Trading” forex through みんなのFX. Started learning well over a year ago, but had a long break due to other projects taking too much time. Not yet profitable on live, but slowly seeing gains on paper trading. Thinking to go back to live once my paper account has regained the loss. Only have time/energy to trade the Asian session at the moment. Hope to shift into full time in some years, but it sure does take an insane amount of effort.
