Regarding Scanned Documents

Anyone else realize they didn’t sign their passport after checking their JET Inbox? (sweats) So glad they made that announcement… but now it has me overthinking everything so I was rereading the application and noticed this disclaimer on the the ‘Documents’ tab:

>All documents must be in PDF format. Physical documents should be converted into PDFs by use of a scanner. Do NOT submit pictures or use phone apps that convert pictures into PDFs. Blurry or illegible documents will not be considered.

I took a photo of my diploma since it was so big- can they really tell if I converted it to a PDF on my computer? I don’t think so, but now I’m anxious about these minute details!

  1. I don’t think JET will care, as long as it looks good. The issues are always with edge cases — pics that are blurry, so are they real, are they legible, that kind of issue.

Edit: But Japanese immigration needs the diploma to process your visa, so if you can submit a scan too, maybe you should.

But anyway, you should generally get a scanned or PDF copy for use in your life.

  2. Probably won’t care, but if you want to save yourself the headache and be 1000% sure you’re okay, try uploading your official transcript twice.

Source: “If your transcripts have both:
    1. The degree achieved
    2. The date the degree was conferred
You may use your transcripts as both Proof of Graduation and Transcripts by uploading
    them twice under both labels.”

I did this because I didn’t want to squish my diploma through my teeny tiny little scanner machine

  3. I messaged the JET Inbox regarding the reasoning for it being scanner-only, thinking security measures might be involved, and they let me know that it was strictly for quality assurance purposes. Phone scans are okay as long as everything is legible.
