An awful lot is done at all levels of government to build flood defences, cope with storm water, announce and organise evacuations but if the once in lifetime rain storm hits from the wrong direction or wrong timing then all the preparations are put to the test. Walk around any neighbourhood in a low lying area and you can see how much of the infrastructure is designed for those one or two times a year it will be needed.
I always find it sad that people are quick to post up the tiniest earthquake news in Japan that barely shook the hanging lamp when the real killer year in year out is rain either in flooding or due to landslides.
So unfortunate.
damn… the guy found in his car fully submerged is scary and sad. Imagine thinking you just want to stay dry in your car and suddenly getting trapped inside it by a flashflood.
