I guess I made a mistake

So, It’s been a while I moved to Japan, and I can say I’m very happy overall. I started studying japanese intensively from 2018 to now, and my level is quite high (JLPT N2). I even made some japanese friends quite easily when I was in Japan, they was very interested in me, maybe due to the fact I was a foreigner.

Now, today, we were talking as usual about gaming and other things like japanese culture, and when we were talking I decided to say “俺様”(oresama) as a joke during the conversation. I kept saying “oresama” over and over again when the conversation was about me, and then my japanese friends stopped talking to me and now they’re not evem asnwering my messages!

What can I do?

  1. Apologize for acting like a narcissist, and fall on your proverbial sword. Even if you were joking, putting yourself on such a pedestal probably made them uncomfortable because you were implying that you were better than them through your choice of language.

Maybe they’ll forgive you, maybe they won’t. That’s always the risk you run when you act like a dick to your friends.
