I’ve been shopping online with Costco Japan for the last couple years using a prepaid Mastercard since they only accept Mastercard… I went to make a purchase this weekend and my card was declined. I’ve used this card for Costco online purchases at least 25 times. It looks like they recently started using 3D Secure, which my card supports, but they decided to stop accepting prepaid cards (at least with my limited Japanese this is what I was able to get from the chatbot). There is no English chat support and the English phone option always gives me a recording saying nobody is available and to call back later.
Does anyone know for sure that this is true? Has anyone else here using a prepaid card attempted a purchase recently? Was your card declined?

Are you talking about online? I’ve used my d-card prepaid both online and offline without issues. Which prepaid mc are you using?
If you know any Japanese, open a bank account with Sumishin SBI Net Bank, they’ll issue a you 3D Secure compatible MasterCard debit right away.
