Just curious, how much does it cost (maintenance, zeikin, shaken) to own a japanese sports car such as gtr r35, lexus lc, NSX?

  1. This is one of those questions that needs more information. Age of car, over 5 years since it was made, shaken gets expensive, under 5 years is better. How big is the engine? 1.5 L or 2.0 L is OK. Over 3.0 L starts to get expensive. Domestic cars are cheaper than imported cars in most respects, but look at a minimum of 100K Yen/year for a car. Add a permanent parking place, a must before you even buy a car, gas, toll roads, etc. It is not cheap to own/operate a car in Japan.

  2. You need to avoid a car with a large engine like 4.6 or larger the yearly tax is about 100,000 yen .. I use to spend like 5000 yen a day for gas.. smaller engine turbo is better

  3. The Road tax is engine size dependent. Unless the law changed, I believe the formula is

30,000 for up to a 1.0 liter engine. Then it is add 5000 yen for each 0.5 liter above that until 6L or something, where above that it jumps to like 110,000 or something.

Maintenance varies and it will be more expensive for older or foreign cars.

Shaken shouldn’t be too different than a regular car.

  4. tl/dr The only difference between a sports car and a regular/non-sports car is maintenance and probably tax since sports cars tend to have higher displacement engines

Maintenance depends on the car and whether you go dealer or an independent shop. Cant really say anything more unless you choose a specific model and the way its used (eg tracked often, just city driving etc)

Shaken is calculated based mostly on weight and car age, over 13 and later on 18 years it gets slightly more expensive. Then you have compulsory insurance which is mostly useless and costs a bit less than 2man and some minor 2sen fees

Tax is calcualted by engine size, up to 3 liters should be 6man ish which is okay, more than 4.5 or so youll be paying around 10man per year

  5. Having a sports car like a r35 or nsx is just as expensive as every where on the earth. The only Thing that might be cheaper are parts, because you dont have to Import them.
But older jdm sports cars are really cheap to get if you compare it to the Rest of the World
