I’m currently working in India as a software engineer from past 7 years. Now I have got an offer from Japan to work in Tokyo for 7 mil Yen per annum. I’m confused as they’re ready to pay the same amount working in India too. Is 7 mil Yen enough in Tokyo for a single person? If I get married this year, would this be enough?

**Job in Tokyo?**

7mill is enough to live pretty decently when you are single yea. It really depends on your lifestyle.
If you intend to support another person full time then you’ll need to make sure not to live too extravagantly. Keep a budget maybe. It’s still allowing for a decent lifestyle and savings though.
People manage to live on 4-5 million in Tokyo so 7 is good enough. It’s not rich people money but you can have a decent life on it.
7mil is more than enough for a single person to live comfortably here and still put money away in savings. Any particular concerns?
IMHO, 7M is not enough if you are planning on getting married soon. 7M (¥) in India would get you a much better lifestyle. You’d need around 12M in Japan to compete with that lifestyle. With 7 years of experience, I would push for at least 9-10M. However, if your future wife can also get a programming job here, it will surely make it easier for you to live.
Also it’s not just about the money. If you are sure you want to spend a year or two and go back, it is okay. But if you want to live long-term, Japan is a big commitment. You’ll need to learn the language at least.
