Is YellowHat a good place to get your shaken renewed?

Are there any auto shops to watch out for?

Are prices negotiable?

Thank you 🙏

  1. This seems like a post about shopping, maybe your question is solved by [the wiki page](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/wiki/shopping)?

  2. It’s fine. That or コバック. The prices are set, you aren’t going to haggle. If you want it cheaper, do self-shaken at the test center yourself. But you’ll need to know what you’re doing.

  3. Couple of man extra maybe compared to a local private garage, but cheaper than a dealership. But if you don’t know any reliable local garages, it’s a good choice. But getting to know a local garage and the owner are the best option long term for cheap prices and solid work.

  4. ユーザー車検 is one of the cheapest option after maybe doing it yourself. But keep on mind a big chunk of the shaken are taxes that you can’t really negotiate. 重量税 etc which depends on the type of car you drive.

Places like yellow hat will probably try to perform work on your car to make more money even if it’s totally fine. So keep that in mind.

  5. I would absolutely recommend コバック if your car is in a good state and don’t want to waste time doing the self shaken.

  6. I have used YellowHat a few times for my shaken and they always did a great job for cheaper than what we were quoted from smaller local workshops. Tyres are usually well priced too.
