In need of fun ideas for my teaching job…

I currently work at a kindergarten and every month we have a birthday party for the kids who were born that month. The party usually consists of 60 – 80 kids and part of the party includes a performance.

Every month a teacher is responsible for putting on a performance to entertain the kids. I have a coworker who is a professional juggler, another coworker who can do magic tricks, and another coworker who can play instruments. I feel a bit out of their league and soon it will be my turn to “perform”. Does anyone have any fun and simple ideas of how to entertain a room full of kids? I’m a bit nervous…

  1. Something that has always worked for me when I worked at a kindergarten and nursery was picture books. I like acting out the things in the books and the kids always loved it.

Even now in junior high, I act out the stories and the kids laugh. Did a snippet of “The adventures of Tom Sawyer” today with the 9th graders and got a few laughs with my gestures.

  2. Do Aesop’s fable about the Sun, the Wind, and their attempts to strip that traveler fella of his garments.

You play all three parts, with appropriate voices, make up, and costumes.

  3. Maybe you can be the science person? Showing off cool science tricks is fun for the kids and educational. I work in kindergarten too. You can find many ideas on Pinterest.
