Hello everyone!
I’m interested in doing a 3-4 month research stay/internship in Tokyo in the field of political science, looking at Hitotsubashi or Tokyo University. I’m a master’s student in Paris (at a good university) and I know of scholarships like this for other countries, where as long as you get a professor to sponsor you, you can visit the professor/lab and work under them for a few months (Canada has Mitacs, Europe has Erasmus+, Italy has MAECI etc…).
Do you know of any scholarships like this for Japan? Whether it be government or private foundations? I’ve [found this](https://www.studyinjapan.go.jp/en/_mt/2023/04/2023-2024Scholarship%20Pamphlet%20English.pdf) but not too clear tbh, and was wondering if someone had such an experienece.

**Any funding/scholarships available for short research stays?**

You can look into JSPS and MEXT
MEXT doesn’t fund short stays. I’m doing a PhD and have found it excruciatingly difficult to find funding for short stays. JSPS might have something? But if they do it didn’t apply to me so I don’t remember details. Worth looking into I suppose. The Japan Foundation has 2 and 5 month funded language courses for academics. But it’s not funding for your own stuff, it’s for language course (I recommend applying if it fits in your timeline, solid program). Otherwise you’d have to look for funds at your host university or your home university. As far as I know there are no broad scope short term funds that exist. Maybe I missed some though. Good luck
Also, if you have have contact with a professor who is willing to host you that is enough on the admin side, they’ll coordinate with the university to get you sorted. But they won’t have funding for you.
Added: In the US, I can get funding from government agencies (department of education, national science foundation) for field research of varying lengths, and from foundations in my discipline. Do whatever relevant government bodies (educ nat, cnrs) and associations of poli sci that exist have funding you can apply for?
