We will be in Kyoto on July 17th and just want to view the floats procession for a quick 10-15 minutes to take a few photos before heading to Osaka. Where should we go and when should we get there? Will we be able to move through the crowds? Any advice appreciated, thanks!

People who want to take a good look at them generally get to the route three hours prior to the procession. You can’t watch them for 15 minute because they move along. No, the crowd will be too much just to move through.
Edit; I don’t recommend waiting for the procession because it gets really hot in July.
I will be there too!!! I found this map indicating route and the time. The time is accurate as this aligns with the 2023 seated ticket time that they are selling as well https://images.app.goo.gl/iwTvh48oK5B8y4qg8
I personally decided against buying the ticket as I don’t intend to sit for an hour in hot sun. I will be just be there around the festival (maybe half an hour early to the arrival), take some photos and be on my way.
