Need advice on buying an aircon

Sorry it’s another air con post. I just moved into a new apartment and I need to buy two aircons but think I’m a bit late to get a decent deal at a store.

I’ve been trying to get a Daikin or Mitsubishi but all I’ve seen at the stores are current models or rather expensive deals on them.

I just wanted to ask if anyone had an advice on buying an AC online. There I can find last years models for good prices. I found a nearby shop that will install for 20,000-30,000ish. I’m just worried about warranty if I buy from Amazon/rakuten.

Anyone have any advice about buying online? I’d appreciate any help. Thank you.

  1. Check kakaku.com, it’s the defacto standard price comparison site in Japan. You can filter your choices by all sorts of things including brand and power output. [Here’s a list of Daikin models with power output from 2.8 to 3.6kw](https://kakaku.com/kaden/aircon/itemlist.aspx?pdf_ma=177&pdf_Spec312=2.8-3.6), for example.

Work out which model you want to get and then where you want to buy it from based on store rankings, delivery times, prices, etc.

As for installation, we found our aircon guy/electrician on ジモティー. Would recommend, you can check their reviews as well as what they say about themselves and their prices. Make sure you find someone who is certified, obviously.

  2. Have you considered sucking your teeth in the stores while standing next to a current model? They’d probably match an online price at the very least.

  3. I looked at the costs of it, and bought a 3000 yen fan from Donki. It works fine and keeps me cool, and the cost (both purchase and electricity) is at least an order of magnitude lower. Also so much simpler and better for the environment. Don’t rule it out.

  4. Second hand units at a recycle shop with 2 years of usage are usually a very good deal.
In your price range, I would advise you to opt for Mitsubishi Electric, which building quality is top notch. I have two cheap Daikin and they had to be serviced 2 times both in less than two years. My other Mitsubishi have absolutely no issue.
