You need to follow up with your reference. If they don’t submit it by the deadline, your application is considered incomplete.
It is always good to have a few other back-up references in case

To be fair, I have been following up with my references regularly, and they are both still in progress. DEFINITELY check in with them now, but mine swore they’d have it done by Wednesday, so… I guess we’ll both see!
They probably submitted it incomplete. I followed with one of mine and they fixed it in a matter of minutes
I’m right there with you. I’m low-key freaking out because I don’t think I can find a suitable replacement on such short notice.
Happened to mine too. Emailed them about it (they were taking 3 weeks to get it done) and once i emailed they had it done in a few days. Be kind, yet persistent. Otherwise ask around it theyre ghosting you.
Update on mine… Well, now I feel stupid. I reached out a couple of times to one of my references today, basically saying if you don’t do this, I won’t even have a shot at this job…I hate to be the squeaky wheel, but can you please get on this?
They replied, and it turns out they had actually emailed me at the beginning of this month for more information. The thing is, though, that they sent that email to my old student email that I don’t really check anymore. I thought they would use my current email or text me as we had been. (since I worked graves and there were emergencies, they gave their personal number to their employees.) Anyway I was an idiot for not double checking that email.
Luckily they understood and will get my letter done now that I have sent them the information they needed. So check everywhere y’all. Don’t be like me.
