Hey guys, I am somewhere around N4 right now, mostly finished Genki 2 and have done themoeway tango N5 and most of N4. I want to get started mining sentences/words from anime, VN and other sources but how am so lost on the how. There are so many different guides and I have tried following them but some are so poorly explained that its impossible to follow or some just don’t result in what I want. Ideally I would like to be able to watch/play/read something then go over to texthooker and add it through yomichan and get all the pictures, audio, context in an anki deck. What is the recommended method for doing this these days?
As another note, does yomichan dictionary priority not work how I think it does? I would assume that a priority of 1 means that dictionary result shows about 2 but no matter what I do with these orders it’s not what I want.

To get started mining [word ](https://www.mypeoplenews.com/2023/06/unlocking-fluency-15-essential-japanese.html) from anime, VN, and other sources, use Texthooker with Yomichan to extract text, add it to Anki with accompanying pictures, audio, and context, and ensure your Yomichan dictionary priorities are set correctly to display the desired results.
Depending on how tech savvy you are, you can try following this guide to install Memento. I use it to mine from anime and Jdramas direct to Anki.

If you can afford spending some money, try Migaku. Costs 5 bucks a month but makes mining very easy.
My advice would be a text workflow vs audible like a TV show or something the reason being is we naturally use a limited range of vocabulary in spoken language. You’ll mine more and get more nuance from text and reading is good for you.
