In newspaper articles, why is there no furigana for places such as schools, rivers, neighborhoods, festivals, parks, stations, etc.? All of those places have a specific reading and the average Japanese person isn't familiar with all of them, so why is there no furigana?

I love how “wide” those nigiri are, my favorite sushi place makes them much slimmer, but otherwise look the same. (and is the best sushi I know)
I would pay 40€ for a serving like that there – though it would be less fish, so I’d need one for myself :’D

We can’t judge the price purely based on a picture. Jiro in Tokyo is expensive but you wouldn’t know it’s worth it if you just saw the pieces of sushi by themselves.
