Power for heavier than usual machinery. Also businesses for raw materials.

So in the US getting 2 and 3 phase power in a garage is fairly easy, however I’m having hard time finding information for Japan.

I’d like to keep my hobby/side business going and I’m wondering what the option are shortnof buying new equipment, which I can do but everything is pretty well dialed in.

I plan on buying a house in Wakayama with a decent sized garage for shop space and I’m curious if any of my stuff will operate. Mainly I’m concerned about my welder and plasma cutter.

I have a home built CNC Plasma that should operate fine for the brain controls, but not sure about the plasma itself. Same with the welder.

It’s a Lincoln 180HD and the Plasma is a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52. Both run on 220/230 with a 50A breaker. Both should operate on 50hz according to their manuals.

If they won’t operate, I would accept recommendations for similar quality machines.

Also, any recommendations for places I can buy bulk materials for steel, aluminum, iron, bolts, etc?

  2. If you’re in Wakayama then you’d be in the 60hz area and not the 50hz area. 200volt is not uncommon for homes, usually to power things like aircon. It is of course a different shape power adapter. Check out here: [https://www.kepco.co.jp/english/home/denki/01.html](https://www.kepco.co.jp/english/home/denki/01.html)

You’ll want to make sure your homes circuit breaker can handle it. 30a is not uncommon for homes in japan, although it shouldn’t be any drama to switch to a 60a breaker.

If you’re really married to your equipment, you could look into getting a step up transformer to run it. I can’t imagine something that could handle that much juice would be cheap though. So you’d need to be really careful picking out the one. Something like this: [https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07KZS2F3W](https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07KZS2F3W)

It may be best to discuss your plans with a local electrician and have them wire up your work space. Let them recommend transformers and whatnot, and if possible buy it through them.
