  1. USJ on Saturday with the kid for possibly the last time before we let our yearly passes expire. The heavenly crowd limits and no tourist years were great, but the place just gets too packed now, so we’re going to take a break.

Rode Spider-man for the last time, before they inexplicably close it in January. Went into Nintendo area to ride Mario Kart then after that immediately left because nothing else worth waiting for (plus can’t move.) Kid got their day made being the one picked to come on stage during the Hippogriff show. And a nice new pair of sneakers with thick soles meant my kid was baaaaarely able to ride the Hollywood Dream coaster for the first time. Was a blast but somewhat disconcerting having a budding thrill rider just as I am starting to age out fully enjoying those rides. I fear the day we visit a Six Flags on a trip home…

  2. Costco.Chicken.Enchiladas.

TBH, the taste is nothing special; but, it’s the thought that counts.

I’d recently opened a few browser tabs to see how hard it would be to make some myself (the sauce is the hard part), but “put this foil pan in the oven for 30 minutes” wins on simplicity.

  3. Saturday was decently relaxing with some new coffee beans and video gaming. Sunday going on through today has been shite on account of a rain-induced headache causing brain fog and tiredness.

  4. – Saturday: went to Kawasaki and some places not too far from where I live for some shopping, bought Kirby merch mainly.
    – Sunday: woke up super early and had breakfast then went right back to bed until 11. Oops. I was so tired suddenly that I had to go back to sleep. Went back to Kawasaki to buy another Kirby item I wanted yesterday, then went skating. Got a hair cut (bangs). For dinner, husband and I were originally going to go to a Mexican restaurant for dinner but since the wait was over an hour, we decided to go to Torikizoku instead.

  6. I wanted to go shopping this weekend but I have a stubborn covid cough so I stayed home. I’m so considerate.
Went to a clinic Friday and got some medicine. My cough medicine came in powdered form and you’re supposed to pour it into your mouth and wash it down with water.
The first time I got all of it under my tongue and it tasted terrible. The second time I think I poured it straight down my windpipe, very unpleasant. After that I gave up and mixed it with water. So yeah, great weekend.

  7. Fell asleep in express train, missed the last shinkansen, booked night bus, get lost in shinjuku station, missed the last bus. Good job, me.

  8. Been hanging out with a girl lately that I quite like, so I asked her out yesterday, but I got turned down. 🥲 Sad, but life goes on!

  9. Kiddo was adamant he had a stomach ache and wanted to visit a hospital, which he never does, so we were slightly worried. He didn’t have a fever, didn’t throw up or poop, nothing we could tell.

Eventually we made it to the 24 hour kids hospital and they checked him out. Apparently he has constipation, so they gave him an enema and he started crying as stuff is coming out of both ends…

After 5 minutes, he felt significantly better and was joking around as usual, so I guess the lesson was “always listen to your kid when they say they feel bad”

  10. Went to Kyoto to celebrate Tamako Market’s 10th anniversary and spent all night watching 12 episodes + movie. Was a nice experience but I started yawning halfway through cause I didn’t prep (drink caffeine) enough.

Got asked for directions and about trains a few times. People were nice enough about it so no complaints on that end.

  11. We finally planted tomatoes yesterday!! Did some bed shaping/tarp covering too. I absolutely love gardening and it keeps the cost of groceries down but could definitely do with less weeding.

  12. There was a horror movie showing in my community hall nearby so I got a free ticket and went to it. It’s called Let it be, and it was a psychic helping people with various spirits. I honestly liked the ghost variety, and it’s attempts at horror (only when introducing the ghosts) were admirable and not too bad. I’m pretty critical with movies.
Coming out of it, I learned that the movie was from Happy Science, and I’m honestly impressed. It didn’t feel agenda heavy so I had no clue! I had a pleasant chat and didn’t give them my info.

  13. I took my daughter to monthly opening of a indoor play area. It was the first time in a play area where she is one of the “big kids.” Most of the babies there were 8~12 months old. She had a blast, though I am still bad with socializing her since I’m also too shy.

Went for pizza and craft beer as well, first time to have a lunch with the wife outside with drinks in months. Really a great time.

  14. This weekend I went on a great hike in my city, which started off with my friend from a different city running up and hugging me in a conbini. A surprise but a welcome one 🙂

My friend recommended a dango shop and it is SO GOOD. Even better it had allergy labels. It’s my new favorite business in the city 😭

Started on my third goshuincho (shrine signature book) since arriving in Japan in November 2021. Decided to count my shrine signatures and apparently I’ve collected 42 so far. You could say I’m a little obsessed.

  15. Saturday: went to driving school to pay off tuition fees, ate the limited menu at Yamaokaya- ebishio ramen. Taste was good for the first 10 spoons, after that the shrimp and salt taste overpowers everything. Managed to finish the noodles but can’t finish the soup.

Then I went to a bike parts shop to look for full-face helmets. Man those are way more expensive than I thought. 40k~60k for a helmet??? I get it they can decide between life and death but for it to cost 10% of the bike price… Am I being too cheap? Lol. Did not buy it but eventually I’ll have to get one. Spent the rest of the day in the arcade playing IIDX.

Sunday: House chores day. Laundry, vacuum, mop, the usual things. Was raining the entire day so perfect to stay indoors anyway.

  16. plucked some eggplants (3 pcs ) , from the plant we planted about a months ago. Surprisingly they grow so fast. Faster than tomatoes. tomatoes are still green but in more quantity. When plucking I felt like pro farmer 😀

  17. went for a trip with my labmates to Yufuin & Kumamoto

pretty nice places, though slightly like your generic 食べ歩き and castle spots

hanging out with them was really good

  18. My husband is doing a ramen stamp rally and we went out to eat ramen with our baby in his stroller. I was against it because most of the ramen places listed are small/narrow and difficult to bring a stroller. My husband just said we should try anyways, if they asked us to leave, we’d apologize and leave.
The master didn’t say anything, and the space was narrow, but we were able to fit the stroller without it getting in the way of other customers and baby slept the entire time so he never fussed.
I hadn’t ate ramen in a while and missed it because it was usually our thing to eat together before the baby was born.

  19. Rain, all day, everyday…

Hung out at a friend’s place and had some nice lunch cooked by them 😋

  20. stuck in all weekend because of my operation. Was supposed to meet a friend in Osaka today but that got scrubbed.

Dad is here to help me dress the wound. Once I get better I’ll be taking him and my mom arriving next around. Really excited for that.

  21. I found a quality, cheap onsen that has a full-sized swimming pool in the inaka I live in. I missed the sauna/steam room back in the States and this place blows those facilities out of the water. I was really struggling with accepting my life here along with feeling alone after I ended my relationship, but this simple pleasure has changed the game. I’ll be getting monthly passes so I can work my body and revitalize my soul after a day of being an English puppet. Gotta find the simple pleasures that positively change your outlook.

  22. This weekend had quite a lot of hair come out in the shower. Hair has fallen off a cliff over the past month, started shedding far more than ever before. Still looks passable so it’s early-ish days, but have that to deal with now. Going to a clinic next weekend.

Over this weekend had a rash and some welts on my body. Had an intimate partner a few weeks ago who I believe gave me herpes, and gave me zero forewarning that I had anything to worry about. So not the greatest weekend of my life on that front either.

Falling for a friend who I previously friendzoned because things were moving too fast, but it will be difficult to restart things with the disclaimer of ‘hey, I want us to seriously try a relationship, but I might have acquired a lifelong virus in the meantime’. So I’m feeling absolutely fucked over there.

On the bright side, figured out what kind of ramen I actually like (never was curious about ramen until now, so finally went to a chain store over the weekend). Was awesome.

So not the greatest of weekends in my life. Just slowing going to plow through everything. At least my chill Japanese friend is a nurse so she’s advising me on where I should go.
