Viewing locations for Sumida River Fireworks Festival WITH toddler?

Can anyone recommend a viewing location for the Sumida River / Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival on 29 July 2023 that won’t be insanely crowded?

We’d like to take our toddler to see the fireworks, but we want to avoid the crowds (as much as possible).

Realistically, we’ll probably only be there for 15 minutes (possibly shorter) so any viewing location recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I was considering of going too and some suggested Shiori park a bit north. However, in reviewing past fireworks footage – it does not look that impressive and the amount of crowd is just insane. I might just skip this…

  3. When exactly are you in Tokyo ?

Sumidagawa is the most famous festival in Tokyo, but the crowds are beyond insane, it takes place in an area that is not adequate for public viewing (surrounded by buildings) and most of the “nicer views” will be taken by groups that will pretty much camp from early morning (even previous night). It’s a nice fireworks but the whole thing is more of an “event” than a fireworks festival.

Also, it has been cancelled for 3 years, so expect even MORE crowds…

I’d never bring a toddler there.

There are other festivals of more or less the same scale that are easier to see, not necessarily with fewer people but more spreadout and a bit more spatious area. For instance on July 22, Adachi fireworks, on Aug 5th, Itabashi and Edogawa fireworks….
