I have a Japanese license and because I live in a city and ride everywhere on my bicycle, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a 50cc scooter just to run around town with.
I’m aware that if you want to purchase a car then you need to have a parking space in advance before you’re allowed to buy it so I was wondering if it’s the same case for 原付 scooters.
My apartment is pretty close to downtown so it doesn’t have any parking. Anyone with a bike either parks it in their room (like those foldable ones) or puts it in the hallway that leads to the stairs which is where I also keep my bicycle. I also remember that when I first moved into this apartment there was a guy who had scooter that he parked in the same place but I don’t know if he was doing that illegally or whatever.

From what I know, scooters or 50cc can park in the same area as bicycle.
The parking certificate is called a 車庫証明書. You do not need one for a gentsuki.
Off topic: Go for a モトコンポ !
Your local bike store should be able to tell you about the local laws. Usually nothing is needed but you could always check.
