Hi guys. Not usually a poster but can’t find anyone else taking about this to get a gauge on this so have resorted to posting.
Currently trying to renew my work visa. Applied on 25th April through the online service, and it’s still being examined.
Since we are past the 6 week mark now I’m beginning to get a little concerned and feel like I should probably phone immigration or go in. I think that if there were any problems with my application they would have emailed me but I’ve had nothing.
Primarily, I wanted to ask if anyone else is renewing right now in Tokyo and how long they’ve been waiting? Or did it take others who applied mid April or so around 6-8 weeks to renew?
It would be nice to know just to get a handle on whether there are general delays or whether I should start chasing this thing.

You applied just before Golden Week, which will have moved back the waiting time. Plus “Gogatsubyo” when everyone hates their job and life. Give it anoher week.
But if you give them a bell it won’t hurt your chances. Tell them your boss is on your back or you have to go overseas.
I’d wait a week. Then try calling if you have the time. I think the slip you get says to call if it’s been two months since application. And expired visas two months after expiration are to be deported now.
Standard wisdom is that it takes a couple of months. Could be more or less depending on what office you’re interfacing with and what time of year, but you’re still in the normal time frame.
I applied at almost the same time. I was starting to think about contacting them but the postcard arrived a couple of days ago. I applied in person. Don’t know if that makes a difference.
I applied for change of status on 2/22 and still haven’t heard anything. Almost 4 months ago. I’m assuming you went to Shinagawa. When I was there it was packed shoulder to shoulder and I waited for nearly 5 hours just to turn in my application. I hope you don’t have to wait as long as I have been.
Someone asked on a FB page and people were saying they were saying it was taking a really long time… a few people were saying they were in their 6th+ week.
Can you update when you hear anything? I’m starting a new job in August and need to change my visa status this month once I get the paperwork so hearing about the delays people are already experiencing has me stressed.
I applied the week before GW too and I received a notification to send the correct tax documentation last Friday. It seems they might have a backlog😓

Renewal submitted 4/22, approved last Friday
I applied April 12 with my visa expiring April 26. I just got my renewal today.
They are simply very busy in the April-June season. Add in Golden Week.
