working at Merry England in Matsusaka japan.

Just want to give people a warning about working for Merry England in Matsusaka, Mie, Japan. It seems past comments get continually deleted from other people posting. I dont recommend working there and hearing from many of the past teachers, there are many reasons. The boss is emotionally unstable and has a pre WW2 style of managing. It is a highly toxic environment, casual conversations are shunned as it is not using working time appropriately. If a student quits then the boss will always say its because your teaching is not fun and engaging. You will be put down, criticised and demeaned working for this company. Im only saying this as I dont want people to spend a lot of money and time preparing for a new life in Japan only to come and be so shocked at working for a company and boss who has no idea of political correctness and modern day moral standards.

  1. “Merry England” should be enough to deter most people 😂😂

  2. Merry England Matsusaka you mean the English school that has the coffeeshop vibe?

I worked in a company just 500m from there every employee were sent once or twice a week to merry england of course none of them ever managed to align an English sentence properly back in the office

This place looked so cringe even from outside it imagined it would be out of business by now. How do you even end up working there

  3. Thanks for the feedback. I’d post this in r/UniTeachinginJapan if you have not yet done so. Lots of people use that subreddit to research a place before signing a contract.

  4. I know what you mean. I know this guy who has been going there for about four years and up to now he cannot even verbalize a cohesive sentence!

  5. I just Googled this place, and they have a “Choclate” cake on their cafe menu and “Hoildays” on their Employment recruitment page. That should be a red flag enough.

And it’s run by a foreigner? FFS.

  6. I can almost picture what kind of place this is by the thread title, and I’ve never even heard of it until today. The picture isn’t very pretty.
