Deal with the drain flies in bathroom

It’s a toilet + bathroom, no washing machine kept in.

Light and exhaust fan shared the same turn on/ off button. I turn it on 24/7 and keep the door shut

Just moved in this apartment for a month, have a clean on the toilet side every week.

Lots of flies came out this week, I don’t know why but want to deal with it. Anyone can help?

Update:

Removed the bathtub side tab, many flies directly to my face. Checked the bathtub bottom, a compete mess like not only hair.

Used the drain cleaner (landlord provided), not sure if it will help, will plan to do that everyday for a week. At the same time, will as well see myself could deal with the mess under or not.

If none of this work, will use the kabi spray as the second option.

That’s for now. Thanks guy. ありがとうございます

  1. Buy several things of drain cleaner – put it in the drains. Let it sit and wash everything down. Repeat multiple times.

Then get a large pot of water, bring it to a boil, pour it down the drains. Again repeat multiple times this is an easy but time consuming process.

There is a buildup of organic sludge on the walls of your pipes and the flies are eating it and have laid eggs in there. As they hatch they are crawling out of the drains and into your apartment. You need to kill the eggs, kill the larva, kill the flies, and remove the food source.

  2. You’ve got to clean the drains, not the side of the toilet, and you’ve got to do it every day until they are gone, not every other week. The eggs are in the drains. You should also clean the water tank on the back of the toilet if it has one. The eggs are laid in water, so anywhere with stagnant water could have eggs.

  3. Honestly nothing really worked for me when I had that issue except that actual drain fly spray cleaner. I poured boiling water, bleach, etc multiple times and those didn’t work for me personally

  4. Depends on the unit, some of them have p traps that can be taken apart quite easily. Clean it if u can.

  5. Have you really identified where do they come out?

Maybe put some plastic wrap on all drains including toilet overnight or weekend (if you will be out), once figured that out you can dig into the problem.

  6. I recently tried putting plastic wrap over the drain when I’m done bathing. Try that, see if it stops the flies for a bit. Then clean that area a lot.

  7. Bucket flush. Pour bleach down the sink, flush it with 3 large buckets of water. Then do it again for a few days and they will disappear. Once you’re successful you should do this once every few weeks to keep them at bay.

  8. you can ask your landlord for a plumber to ‘unclog’ it. or you can do it yourself, its not too hard if you have a wrench or claw. (wrench is messier but quicker, claw is makes less mess but can take a while) for now try the cleaning suggestions here but it is hard to thoroughly clean plumbing just by dumping fluids into it. they will probably come back sooner rather than later.

  9. I’m having a similar issue and I’ve no idea where these flies come from. I cleaned the drains, and the plumber came over and cleaned it more. I poured bleach down the drains overnight and that helped a tad bit, but when the weather warmed up the flies were back.

I then took off the bath tub’s side panel and sprayed all over with “kabi” spray, which helped quite more, but I just can’t get rid of them.

  10. Baking soda and the cheapest vinegar u can find. Pour the baking soda and then vinegar, let it bubble for about 5 minutes then pour hot water to drain it down.

  11. I saw that you already discovered the origin of the flies. Just one more note; you said you turn on the ventilation and close the door. But the ventilation must draw in air – you should always leave the door or the ventilation slot on the door open a little.

  12. If you have had lots of flies, you might want to get コバエホイホイ traps as well. They are gel filled vinegar traps that you can place near bins or sinks to attract flies.

  13. On Amazon search for バポナうじ殺しスティック. After drain cleaner use this, it kills maggots. Repeat as nessecary.
