Itinerary Check: 14 days for three men in 20s. Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka/Hiroshima/Tokyo. July 5th – 19th

Hi everyone, as the title says, we are 3 men in our early twenties spending 2 weeks in Japan. We’re open to all suggestions and recommendations, hoping to focus mainly on seeing the country during the day but will also enjoy the night life.

In particular, if you have any advice regarding rearranging these days we’d appreciate it (if you feel some days are too busy or some activities that are currently planned for separate days could be done on the same day please let us know!). Thank you in advance. 🙂

July 5th – 9th Tokyo

July 5th:
Arrive in Narita at 6.30pm. Pick up JR Pass, Suica, and travel an hour to hostel. Should arrive at hostel before 10.30.
Possibly head out for a walk around depending on how tired we are from travel.

Explore Shinjuku as we’re staying there. Visit Government Building for view of the city.
Gyoen National Garden.
Go to Shibuya and visit Shibuya 109.

July 9th:
Leave Tokyo for Kyoto Hostel.
Try to visit Fushimi Inari that evening (it will be very busy but might be our best time for it – any advice appreciated here!)

July 10th:
Day trip to Nara

July 11th:
Go to Arashiyama Bamboo Forrest and monkey park.
Would it be possibly to see Nijo castle this day too?
Head to Ryokan where we’re staying for one night, need to be there by 6pm.

Osaka July 12th – 14th

July 12th:
Go to Osaka on the train and explore Dotombori.
Go to America Mura.
Enjoy the nightlife.

July 13th:
Sumo tournament.

July 14th:
Kuchu Teien Observatory.
Osaka Castle.
Den Den Town.

Hiroshima July 15th – 16th

July 15th:
Go to Hiroshima on train.
Visit peace memorial, shukukeien garden and Hiroshima castle.

Get up early and get ferry to Miyajima.
Get ferry back and get train back to Tokyo.

  1. 109 is a shopping mall for for girls and I don’t think I’ve seen guys in there that aren’t with some female friends. There is a guys 109 across the road from it~

Maybe break up your day on the 7th and do a couple of those things on your last two Tokyo days so you’re not rushed.

  2. July 7: This day is overbooked. TeamLab Planets alone took me 2-3 hours to get through. Perhaps move Akihabara to the 8th or the 16th?

July 10th: If you want more time in Kyoto, Nara Park and Todai-Ji Temple can be visited in 1/2 a day.

July 11th: The bamboo grove begins to see crowds around 9:00. Arrive there before then and you can walk to the monkey park around opening time. This will give you time for Nijo Castle.
