New Mizuho Direct security

Just thought I’d let people know that Mizuho seem to have implemented some new security measures when using Mizuho direct from a browser to check for viruses.
If you use chrome and have it set to auto-translate Mizuho seems to detect this as a virus and will lock you out of your account meaning you have to call them, go through security checks and get them to unlock your account – which takes a little over an hour.

  1. Well that’s fucking stupid. And as a valued Mizuho Bank customer, it disgusts me in ways that should be illegal.

From a shitty programmer’s perspective, I’m assuming that they naïvely doing some sort of anti-tampering nonsense on their pages?

You’d have expected shachou to have claimed credit for one of his underlings suggesting that perhaps it might be an idea to see how it breaks when using chrome’s translate feature.

It makes one wonder if they ever test any of this computer stuff.

  2. Happened to me today, it was a huge pain in the ass to fix.

Good to know it wasn’t just hitting me.

Probably will change banks very, very soon.

  3. i’ve noticed a lot of japanese sites will glitch out if you use google translate. what works for me if i want to be sure i understand what’s written is to turn it on to see the translation, then switch to original before filling in any forms or clicking any buttons or links. switching back and forth won’t alter anything you’ve typed in a field.
