2nd Street for used clothes. For new clothes my wife is into Shimamura. We aren’t into them but Nishimatsuya is pretty cheap.
It depends on the age but if they are quite young children then Nishinatsuya (西松屋), Akachan Honpo (アカチャンホンポ) and Birthday are good. Otherwise we tend to exchange things with family and friends, or use Jimoty (ジモティー) to look out for clothes and things locally.
Second hand. Do your bit.
西松屋
Beside the shops everyone has mentioned, H&M is also a brand I frequently buy from.
Book Off Super Bazaar, they sell everything there. Also mercari has good deals too
Mercari unless it’s something that has to be new.
Sou Sou is cute if you want colorful and very Japanese.
The missing one in all the reply: Okaidi for quality/low price. Way better than nishimatsuya.
Petit main and apres les cours have cute yukata options this season
H&M, zara, NEXT
Nishi Matsuya, for casual stuff and cheap jinbei in summer. Shimamura for socks and underwear. Paseos for nice quality clothing with Shinkansen and character print like Doreamon, they often have good stuff in sale too. Zara for nice quality winter jackets and sweaters, though I usually wait until it’s sale. Second hand shops. They might not have a lot of things but my mother taught me to buy children’s clothes in their next size for cheap if you can find them and stash them away until they grew into them. GAP outlet store. And H&M, they have really nice stuff and cheap too during sale, I found a polo shirt and a long sleeved T-shirt there 2 days ago and paid ¥500 for both, my stingy little heart jumped with joy. For special occasions like birthdays or Christmas and we want something extra nice, we order from Next Direct’s webshop something nice from Boden. I love Boden’s children’s stuff.
Markey’s has plenty of good gear
It depends on what you and kiddo like. There is nothing wrong with Uniqlo and GU and my son used to wear that stuff all the time in houikuen. My wife wanted a change of style for elementary and like 90% of kids around here wear Uniqlo, so since then she basically gets stuff from H&M and sometimes Zara.
Nishimatsuya is good for cheap clothes through elementary school age. Or maybe more precisely, elementary school size. If you’ve got a tall 6th grader you’ll likely find nothing for them there.
H&M but also Amazon, specifically the Carter’s brand. It’s the same Carter’s brand as at Target in the US. Uniqlo sometimes as well.
I have a 4 year old and like Breeze and Graniph. My kid adores the socks from Breeze for some reason and of course all the cute tees and dresses at Graniph.
It’s a UK store, and I don’t think they have a physical store in Japan, but their online store seems to deliver any orders from Japan because it’s free delivery and it comes in a day or two.
EDIT – Just checked – and it seems they deliver from UK, so free delivery is only if you spend over 3000 yen. But that’s not bad. However, you have to pay for delivery for returns, which might be expensive now that Japan seems to have stopped the “small parcel” option.
Lots of stuff from Uniqlo.
Obaachan will periodically buy up the whole collection from Petit Bateau or so it seems. Thanks obaachan.
One thing I’ve found is that you can order from [Laredoute.com](https://Laredoute.com) and it gets shipped from Hong Kong or something so the shipping fees are really cheap. I got a bunch of bedding stuff from them since we’re doing things the European way (i.e. sleeping bag sorta thing in a cot with no blanket or pillow).
