I’ll try to keep this as concise as possible. I live in the USA and have a local group that enjoys playing koi koi with hanafuda. Recently there has been discussion on trying out other games using different Japanese decks and oicho kabu has come up. The problem we’ve run into is that there are very few resources online for learning oicho kabu, and the few that exist tend to contradict each other in some ways.
I am aware that oicho kabu is featured in the video game series Yakuza. None of us have ever played Yakuza and would prefer to base our group’s ruleset off of the most common rulesets used in actual gameplay in Japan.
I’m not sure how popular of a game this is in Japan, but I was hoping to find someone here that is familiar with the game being played IRL that can help us solidify a ruleset for play!
