Travel Question

What is the difference between registered and unregistered suica card? I will be traveling to Japan in September and was wondering does the suica card shortage affect normal suica cards that can be purchased from the machines at train stations? The shortage is only on registered cards not unregistered cards.

  1. I’m wondering this myself. I have a Suica card obtained during my first Japan trip in 2016. I have no idea if it’s “registered” or not, can’t remember. I’m in Japan now and it is working with no issues. I’d hate to have it stop working.

  2. Both cards work the same except the registered card requires you to register your personal details so the main advantage is that a lost registered card can be reported lost. Unregistered cards can’t.
