Scent-Free Detergent + Soaps

Hi Everyone,

I’ll be out with friends for two weeks in August, however one of us has an allergic reaction to scented products in the US.

Does anyone have any recommendation, or know of any, scent-free alternatives to the traditional hand soap and detergent that we can buy when we are in Japan?

Thanks!

  1. I’m allergic to fragrance too, you could bring your own fragrance free laundry soap and hand soap. Put it in a little travel container or get pods for the laundry detergent.

  2. The natural/scent free branding should stand out like it does most places (more neutral colors, simpler design, babies on the label, etc), but look for 無香料 (unscented) on things. [Miyoshi](https://www.amazon.co.jp/s?k=%E3%83%9F%E3%83%A8%E3%82%B7%E7%9F%B3%E9%B9%B8) is the one that I find the easiest, it’s at a lot of grocers. Grocers typically only carry a few items of these types of products, though, you’ll find more of an extensive soap and detergent selection at any drugstore or home center.

  3. Not sure of any brands as it’s not something I look for but if the product has the kanji 無香料 then it should be fragrance free.

  4. Hi! I have a detergent allergy because of fragrances/dyes too and just brought my own detergent with me in a small container. I’m sure there are products here that meet those criteria but with the language barrier I really didn’t wanna risk the possibility of hives/rash ruining this trip when it’s easy to pack something I already know is safe for my skin. I’d suggest your friend pack some along too just to play it safe.

Checked out the detergent aisles the other day and it looks like most things are scented at least to some degree from the bit of Japanese that I can read.
