***Questions:***

1. Is this itinerary too much? Where should I cut down and/or spend more time?
2. Am I missing something obvious? Do you have any recommendations?
3. I am considering purchasing the 14 days JR Pass … Would you recommend this?

Any other thoughts or feedback are welcomed. Thank you!

  1. This itinerary is way too packed and needs an overhaul. I would recommend mapping each of the areas and POIs you’re interested in on Google Maps (My Maps) and grouping adjacent neighborhoods together.

Try to stay in the area of your accommodation on Day 1. You’ll most likely be exhausted and there is no telling how long it will take to get out of the airport and to your accommodation, especially from NRT. Akihabara is on the opposite side of Shinjuku; It should be grouped with stations like Ueno and Asakusa.

I would take out DisneySea altogether if you don’t plan on spending most of the day there; It is not worth the trek if you’re only allocating 1/3 of the day for it.

  2. If possible put in the timing your visiting and if the days are weekday or weekend.
For some of the places expect large crowds especially on weekends and if it’s the summer leave time for taking breaks unless your use to hot muggy places.

  3. Disney Sea will take an entire day. Tokyo tower 🗼 lines could take much longer than expected

  4. > is this itinerary too much

This is way too packed. For example:

    * On Day 8 you are visiting six attractions in eight hours (Tenryuji opens at 9am; Nijo Castle closes at 5pm) most of which are not within walking distance of one another.

    * On Day 2 you barely have any time actually in DisneySea.

    > missing something obvious

I see a lot of duplication. For example:

    * Osaka castle vs Himeji castle

    * Kuromon market vs Nishiki Market vs Tsukiji market – yes the history of each is distinct, but they’re functionally all crowded food markets for tourists

    * the gazillion temples and shrines – it’s okay to visit many if you are genuinely interested in each one, otherwise they all look the same after a while

    > JR pass

You only need a 7-day JR pass (days 6-12). Swap days 11/12 and 14 so you can get Himeji covered under the pass. Nikko is cheaper via Tobu Railways pass.

  5. You’ll be a zombie by the end of your trip!!!! Everything will be a blur. You’re on vaca… you want to enjoy it and more importantly, remember it. Don’t fall into the trap that you must do everything.

  6. Way too packed and unrealistic.

For theme parks like USJ and Disneysea, you would definitely need a full day unless you want to skip >50% of the attractions.

For TeamLab, you would most likely need half a day. But touring Kyoto on the same day with TeamLab? Possible but quite tough.

Also, keep in mind that a lot of the attractions and temples close by 5pm. (for example, the Imperial Palace in Kyoto is only open until 5pm).

  7. I don’t know where to begin but just saying this itinerary is just not realistic. This itinerary would be more feasible in 25 days.

  8. You’ve already been told this is too much. So I’m just going to give you some suggestions.
    – pick one park: either Disneysea or USJ
    – on the day you arrive stay in akihabara. if you feel like going out try going to ueno/asakusa rather than going the other way to the west.
-try to fit teamlabs on the day you go to tsukiji since they’re close.
-imo you don’t need 5 days in Osaka. I personally didn’t enjoy it that much. If anything add one more day to Tokyo.
Also what i did was stopping at Himeji on my way back from Hiroshima. Took me 2 hours to see the castle, have lunch and get back to osaka. No need for a full daytrip.
I also flew back from Kix, make sure you have enough time to get there. Maybe cut the sightseeing that day depending on the time of your flight.
