Laws or rules that you want to change? What do you feel should or could be changed.

  1. Banning tattoos from doing normal things like going to a gym or a pool? Barbaric.

  2. Police kidnappings and coerced confessions. Also I’d like some sort of anti-discrimination laws for rental and credit applications.

  3. Bit of a downer, but from reading recent news articles, the fact that a man can be taken to court for chikan – aka, molesting, in this case, a minor, be found guilty of it, be found to have had previous convictions for the same thing, and then to be given a minimal suspended sentence is absolutely fucking disgraceful. There’s a whole rube Goldberg of moving parts that make laws and rights and how they relate to women terrible in Japan, but that high-school students having an annual design contest for anti-chikan pins/badges is about the extent of what’s being done about it is mind-blowing. So much more could so easily be done.

  4. Joint custody. Although that might possibly be changing, it should have been changed a long time ago.

  5. Outlaw dispatch companies. Neither the dispatch companies nor the client companies seem to follow the laws, and the government agencies do very little if anything to enforce the laws under the Dispatch Act. Might as well do away with it altogether and require employers to hire employees directly.

  6. Make it easier for foreigners to rent apartments. If necessary put your passport number on your rental agreement so if you try to run away they can hit you up with fines at the airport

  7. Legalise medical marijuana and gay marriage please so I don’t have to deal with as much pain and can have a wife 🥲

  8. Anything with children welfare involved. Children abuse (any type) is punished too lightly here that makes me feel powerless.
    Also elderly and animal welfare.

  9. Allow internet use for all government services, including but not limited to all the documents you need to get in paper from city hall.

Or at minimum change their “weekends” to Mon/tues

  10. Ban those political campaigning vans that drive around neighborhoods at sorts of weird hours. At least limit them to the downtown area only during certain hours.

  11. Just because your hazards are on shouldn’t give you permission to park on the side of the road and have a nap. Especially on single lane roads where other drivers have to swerve into the oncoming lane to get around your fucking Kei van.

Make exemptions for short pick ups and delivery drivers.

  12. Something similar to the Americans with Disabilities Act that ensures all public spaces are equipped to meet the needs of all people

  13. Banning credit card companies from not allowing you to get a credit card based on how long your name is.

  14. I would add a law.

When turning right you have to go into right lane. When turning left you have to go into the left lane. This would make traffic go so much smoother.

They do this in Okinawa though probably because of the US influence

  15. Enforce bans on streetside parking. This is why there are more accidents involving cyclists on sidewalks: the shoulder is cluttered with stopped vehicles.

  16. In general, most of the tax laws concerning vehicles.

Since 2009 the 自動車重量税 went from a tax to pay for road maintenance to a general purpose fund.

My family and I live in rural Japan with zero public transportation so my wife and I both have cars.

Our roads are shit. I want that fixed.

But I also think it’s ridiculous that you get taxed at a higher rate for maintaining a vehicle that is designed to last a long time, instead of just buying a new vehicle every 16 years.

In fact, I think it’s stupid that you’re getting taxed on a vehicle every year just because you own it.

If there’s going to be any tax, it should be on the fuel consumption itself.

That way you can regulate the most road use being paid for by people who are on the road themselves as well as vehicles that consume a ton of gas will be paying their fair share.

  17. A second entry from me, the hunting law! With a mass overpopulation of animals ruining crops and only three 239 year old men being able to hunt them, the huning law and culture needs to be reformed.

Bow hunting is considered “inhumane” (i did so in america, deer was dispatched in seconds) but hunting guns are near impossible to get. But dont worry, you can snare a deer leaving it to break its leg and suffer for 36 hours before wrestling it to the ground and cutting its throat.

People leave kill hole in the forest where they kill a bunch of animals, and throw them into a hole to rot without taking ANY of it. That can go to charity… or me damnit!

The stigma against hunting, its okay for some old dudes at that one bay to murder hundreds of dolphins every year or hunt endangerd whales, but animal conservation on the mainland is so bad? We are the only predators here now since they hunted the japanese wolf to extinction a century ago, its OUR job to keep the animal population at a healthy number, and its WAY over what it needs to be rn.

  18. national banks need to stop the “only at your account branch” bullshit. it’s all one bank and people move, you should offer all customer services at EVERY branch!

  19. Insane move out cleaning fees. A standard rate of 40,000 yen at many places is absolutely wild. Even back home they wouldn’t do you like that.

  20. Change the “you were 20% at fault of car accident, simply for being there even though you were waiting for the light to change and got hit from behind” law from insurance companies.

  21. In Japan, if you have to take extended leave from work because of sickness, you can apply for an injury and sickness allowance through your work to your health insurance company. But did you know that:

    1) You only receive around 60% of your pay during this time, but you ALSO have to pay all the usual deductibles that come from your salary (taxes, insurance, your share of pension) to your company every month, essentially meaning the allowance you actually receive is far less than 60%? Even with a high-expense medical care benefit program, this can very quickly bankrupt the average salaryman, as they will still earn far less than what gets spent each month.

    2) Even if your company approves of the extended sick leave, if you do not meet the 80% minimum work attendance requirements, they have the legal right to not give you any paid leave days the following year?

I was in this very situation last year and was appalled when I found out about both these matters. I spoke with multiple free lawyer services regarding the second point in particular, and every single one of them was shocked because they didn’t know that there was such a loophole in the law.

I want both of these changed because they defeat the purpose of even having such a system and force people to go back to work even when they’re still incredibly sick. This is especially damning for people who need it the most, like cancer sufferers and whatnot.

  22. Men have to sign off on an abortion… ineptly archaic..

children can’t donate their organs since their not considered adults so Japanese people have to travel to the US and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for transplants …
