The Days

My wife and I just finished watching The Days. I remember some of what happened of the Fukushima disaster, however to be fair it was watching from here in the US. My wife was more impacted, at the time she worked for an electric company, and Japan needed parts and equipment quickly for nuclear sites such as this.

Talking exclusively about this program, it made us feel as though we were there, every moment as it happened. It was well acted, well directed, well produced and post-production, we could feel as if we were in the rooms. And damn the series for making me tear up more than once. Ok, several times.

Knowing the full gravity of what was going on, make it about something else for this point, I kinda wished there were multiple seasons, the entire show was so well made. Of course, it was all about a very bad thing, don’t want “sequels”. But the acting and the interplay of the characters, the drama, even knowing how it ends, the presentation was wonderful.

I wanted to thank all those that were involved in making this, for bringing full understanding and a voice to all those that were impacted by this.

  1. I just finished that one also. I think there was a bit too much がんばれ!nationalism in the way the story was told but it really made me appreciate how terrible the situation was for those who stayed and really did hang in there to keep the reactors from going into total meltdown.

  2. I also just finished it, and in the beginning I told my husband – where did they get the actors? In my experience, Japanese actors can’t act, like, at all 🙂
Apparently, some can and Netflix somehow gathered them in one tv show.
I agree, there could be improvements, but honestly, this is the best Japanese tv series I’ve ever watched 🙂

  3. You can watch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fukushima_50_(film)

There are also a bunch of NHK World documentaries about the details of the disaster, aftermath, decontamination and return of locals.

Oh, and I recommend everyone to read [this article](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/24/the-school-beneath-the-wave-the-unimaginable-tragedy-of-japans-tsunami) to remind them there was more to the tsunami than just the nuclear meltdowns.
