Is there a subscription-based app for reading manga?

My wife really wants to read manga but it seems like it’s so expensive to do here. In the west, we have official apps like Viz and Shonen Jump that give you almost unlimited access for a few hundred yen per month, but here it looks like the only option is to just outright buy any manga you want to read, either physically or with Line Manga. There is the Shonen Jump app here but it doesn’t let you read any previous issues.

If anyone knows a good app/site I’d really appreciate it.

  2. I do kindle unlimited for ¥1000 a month they have a collection of manga and all sorts of other reading material

  3. I believe Unext also has manga but it’s a pretty hefty monthly fee (of course you also get all the shows/movies/etc too)

  4. The subscription model is popular overseas, but here the model is mainly to buy titles/chapters individually, so I highly doubt it. I have accounts in cmoa, renta, magapoke (kodansha’s) and they all work that way. Buying secondhand manga volumes in Book Off or the likes can be a cheap alternative, and if you’re done you can just sell it back.

  5. I brought some volumes of HxH on LINEマンガ and I find the image quality low compared to some other sources on the internet.
The app itself is good. They have a campain today with a 100% coinback (up to 10.000 coin).

  6. We have a subscription at our local Tsutaya that lets us borrow hard copies. The area has very little foot traffic so weekly trips there were a wonderful excuse for an outing during the COVID lockdown years. I’m also more comfortable with my third-grader reading rented paper comics than have his nose in a tablet all the tmie. Maybe you could consider this option too.

  7. If you want English manga I’d suggest getting a VPN (paid but has more features like accessing other region locked content and improved internet security) and using Manga Plus (free).
For japanese manga there are already a lot of different suggestions.

  8. bookwalker and amazon have all you can read subscriptions. Not sure what is or not on their but it includes tons of manga

  9. Sbonen Jump, if you subscribe to their service will let you keep all the issues that you subscribed to. Young Jump as well as well as 講談社 mags such as Shonen Magazine and Young Magazine. I found Comic Days to be the best value from Kodansha which carries like 20 something manga mags from Kodamsha for a month. You don’t get the entire back catalog but good enough to carry on all the Kodansha titles. Best service for me is Manga plus from Shueisha in the US but you need VPN.
