Hi, my air-conditioner remote has gotten to a point where it works for a little while and then the screen just turns blank until it finally dies. Tried changing the batteries but it still won’t work. Funny thing is, my boss has exactly the same model in the office and exactly the same problem, though his seems to work more often than mine. I was wondering if it’s happened to anybody else and if it’s fixable. And if not, is it worth it buying a new one? Tried a generic one but the air-conditioner doesn’t work very well with it. The remote model is a987jb
edit: thanks for all the comments, ended up taking up KenYN’s advice and going to a big retailer. I thought they might not have it as it’s a model that is a little old, but turns out they were able to order it and it wasn’t too expensive 🙂

Go to any big electrical retailers and they will order it, if necessary. Maybe the IR transmitter has burnt out (do they?), which you can check by smartphone camera, as it will pick up the glow if you point it at the remote.
You can just get the same remote on Mercari or Yahoo Auction and it will work. They are between 1000-2000yen at the moment and working.
Check the battery contacts on the remote control. Take a small bit of sandpaper and clean them up a bit, the contacts being corroded or oxidized (no longer shiny) is the most likely cause of the problem you describe.
As a totally different solution, get an [IR dongle](https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqlps1a) and don’t bother with the remote at all.
