Are there classes like this for people living in Kyoto? Or meetups? Or any advice for foreigners interested in meditation and spirituality is appreciated

Sorry I couldn’t be more help. I’m unaware and I would also be wary of cults, if the group is Japanese only.
It took me awhile of meditating before I realized I was depressed. Do not substitute meditation for therapy.
Myoshinji always has something going on. (Same for most of the famous Zen temples). There is also a the Vipassana retreat [https://bhanu.dhamma.org/en/the-kyoto-centre/](https://bhanu.dhamma.org/en/the-kyoto-centre/) . 10-days!
Be aware of scammers and cultists. You can meditate anytime by yourself. You don’t need others. You may need professional mental help, which will likely be more effective than sitting in silence to solve your problems.
As a group activity sitting in silence together is interesting, but please be aware of the many scams and cults in japan due to limited mental health awareness and help.
