Steps I can take now to work towards a possible move in the future?

Hello, this post is for somewhat general advice so apologies if you’re sick of answering posts like this.

I am a 21 year old Canadian student currently doing an under grad for biopharmaceutical sciences. I’ve been interested in moving to Japan for awhile but never put much serious thought into it. I plan on either going to Japan using my school’s exchange program or studying at a language school after graduating to see if I even enjoy living there, before making any big decisions in regards to an actual move.

Is there anything aside from studying Japanese that I can work towards now that might help me down the line? Or should I just focus on becoming as adept at the language as possible? Thanks 🙂

  2. Be sure to make use of all the resources available to you at your current university. Connect with the international center or Japanese department— sign up for their newsletters, go to their talks and events. Sometimes they invite speakers from MNC, have job fairs, have talks from professors visiting from abroad, etc. Network.

Look up the types of jobs you’re interested in on Indeed and see what the sort of qualifications are. That will give you a better idea of how you should be preparing, if previous experience is needed, or advanced degrees, etc.
