How you learn (write, Anki, etc.etc.) is up to you, so I won’t go into that.
What strikes me is
>Im reading manga right now
> I don’t know what any of the words mean
If you don’t know any of the words mean, what are you trying to accomplish by this… “reading” you claim it is?
I consider what you’re doing to be more closer to *gazing* at hiragana and furigana.
Try something more to your level. If there’s too many words you don’t know, look for something a bit easier.

You might enjoy something like [Crystal Hunters](https://crystalhuntersmanga.com/) that is made for beginning Japanese learners.
You gotta do it like this:
1. When you are reading use the dictionary on words you don’t know (e.g. jisho.org)
2. Write down words you want to learn. Don’t necessarily write down every single word though. Write the ones you think will be useful or that you just think are cool. Get to about 8-10 words. It’s ok to keep writing past that, but those words are for tomorrow.
3. After you are done reading study your 8-10 words, a lot.
4. Put those words into anki.
5. Study anki every day before reading.
I think you are saying you’ve memorised Hiragana, and could pronounce something but you wouldn’t necessarily be able to translate it into English is that correct?
If so I did this originally too lmaooo. I think it’s an interesting position to be in, it’s been easier to learn since I already know that major piece. The difficulty is finding a class/structure as they tend assume you are a normal person (😂) starting from square one
Wait if I understood well you know how to read but you know nothing about vocabulary and grammar, if that’s the case then you picked up the wrong manga or light novel.
Bakenonogatari is, in terms of grammar and vocab, a very complex reading compared to your level.
You should try kids books which doesnt have kanji nor advanced pieces of grammar just to practice your reading. Then, study grammar and vocab, once you get to mid-N3 to high-N2 you can go back to monogatari. Otherwise studying will be a hell for you since you will be looking for every word plus you will be confused for every grammar that you won’t understand.
Go for manga that is aimed for kids and good luck in your studies!
It’s great that you can read hiragana and katakana but vocabulary is absolutely required. It’s not bad to read when you don’t know everything but you need context to learn new words through immersion. I would recommend focusing more on Anki / English and japanese content untill you form a base that will enable you to learn through context
Sometimes reading manga I like to have an English copy and a Japanese copy at the same time to kind of figure it out. Also starting with really simple ones is important in order for it to help learning the vocabulary.
