Volunteering for Pet Shelters in Tokyo

Hello! I moved to Shinjuku about 2\~3 months ago, and I was wondering if there are any pet shelters where I can volunteer occasionally?

I can’t go consistently as I have a demanding full time job plus a freelance job, but I have some free time every other weekend. I would really like to use that time to care for rescues, which was something I did back home. I was wondering if that is a possibility here, or if anyone in this group knows of one who can use some help every now and then?
Thank you.

  1. Animal shelters, like every pet establishment, are governed not only by a myriad of people but also organisations that necessitate a standard of excellence and training for any situation.

Rather than relying solely on emails or cold calls, it may prove more useful to engage in direct conversation by visiting the shelters.

Try this link, some are apparently even English speaking

Wish you the best in this noble pursuit.

  2. I was trying to find a dog shelter in central Tokyo to volunteer at a year ago but I couldn’t find any beyond one in Harajuku which makes its volunteers hold signs in the streets about animal cruelty. Everything else seems to be way out in Chiba, Kanagawa etc.

    Would love to find one.
